Longitudinal Nursing Simulation: Caring for a Postpartum Patient with Pulmonary Embolism Across the Curriculum
This simulation is designed to provide nursing students with a longitudinal learning experience caring for a post-cesarean section patient experiencing a pulmonary embolism across multiple semesters. As the students' progress through the nursing program, their responsibilities within the simulation will expand to reflect their increasing clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and skill development. Early-semester students are expected to focus on basic assessments, vital signs, comfort measures, and communication. Advanced students will manage more complex care such as laboratory value interpretation, high-risk medication administration, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This progressive simulation supports the development of clinical competence, confidence, and safe patient-centered care throughout the nursing curriculum.
